The partnership of the HIA and the AWA, co-hosting Ausbuild with the support
of the major sponsors Stegbar and CSR, attracted 25,000 visitors, including the
Hon John Howard, Prime Minister, to the inaugural exhibition and conference held
on 16th-18th May in Brisbane. This "winning" combination of organisations will be
expanded with Ausbuild 2003 in Brisbane; and Melbourne & Sydney in 2004.
Ausbuild has proven to be a very successful combination of a comprehensive
conference for the HIA builders and a major building material/trade exhibition.
Ausbuild was very strongly supported by all major building material suppliers,
in particular 40 window, glass, hardware and other fenestration product
suppliers, which enabled builders and homeowners to view first hand the window
technology that can make their homes safer and more secure, sound proof and
energy efficient.
During the conference sessions an industry wide initiative to
address technical and regulative issues proposed by the HIA opened the way for
the Australian window industry to more effectively move forward to combat the
myriad of challenges confronting the industry. The AWA and Stegbar were once
again able to work together and resolved obstacles that had been impeding the
industry’s ability to best serve consumers and provide the strongest of profiles
to the building industry. Stegbar, who contributed significantly within the AWA
over the past 10 years especially with the introduction of the window standard
AS2047 into the Building Code, has been invited to rejoin the AWA so that they
can contribute in achieving the best possible outcome for builders, consumers
and window manufacturers.
The AWA is also very proud to work in partnership with
the HIA as it has achieved over a number of years the foremost position in
presenting the views and needs of the housing industry to government and
regulative bodies. With Dr Ron Silberberg at the helm the HIA has provided the
leadership which has ensured Australians are more able to purchase their own
home than any other country in the world.
